As Ballina and the Northern Rivers continue to grow, a new local startup is hoping to create more opportunities for people to build food businesses of their own.

SSU Australia is a new platform where cooks can launch their own branded kitchens from home or an existing kitchen, selling directly to local customers through pickup and delivery.

The idea is simple: not everyone who dreams of starting a food business can afford to open a restaurant.

SSU Australia gives them somewhere to begin.

The platform will help cooks create their kitchen brand and menu, work through the required food-safety and council steps, and get ready to start selling.

It can also give existing chefs and food businesses a way to test a new menu or launch another food brand without opening another venue.

SSU Australia is now looking for its first five Founding Kitchens in Ballina and the Northern Rivers.

The company hopes its first kitchens will be the beginning of something proudly born in Ballina — new local food brands, new small businesses and new opportunities for people with something worth cooking.
